Luis Albano Tondo
President, CEO & Director
Mr Luis Tondo joined Coro as the President, CEO, and an Executive Director in June 2017. As an experienced mining engineer with almost 30 years of experience in Latin American mining, notably at mid-tier copper and gold producers, he is well suited to developing value at the Company’s Marimaca project. Prior to joining Coro, Luis served as COO for Grupo Minero Las Cenizas, where he was responsible for operations, projects and business development in Chile; Project Development Director for Kinross in Brazil and Chile; as well as for Rio Tinto in various operating roles. Luis is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Qualified Person for the purposes of NI 43-101. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil; a Master’s in Engineering from the University of Queensland, Australia; and an MBA from the Fundação Dom Cabral in Brazil. Luis is a Brazilian national, resident in Chile and fluent in English, Spanish.
Leonardo Araya Muñoz
Chief Financial Officer
Mr Araya was appointed CFO of the Company in April 2019. He brings to Coro over three decades of accounting, financial and corporate finance experience across the various industries in South America. Leonardo has held a variety of senior executive and board positions at SGS, Wyeth Laboratories , Unifood and Sur Latina Auditores Consultores. He is a Chilean certified commercial engineer and public accountant and auditor, having graduated from the University of Santiago Chile. Leonardo is a Chilean national, resident in Chile and fluent in English.
Vice President of Exploration
Mr Sergio Rivera joined Coro in November 2011 as VP Exploration, the department for which he took full responsibility in June 2018. A respected Chilean geologist, Sergio has over 30 years’ experience and is credited for his involvement in several significant copper discoveries in Chile. Sergio is a member of the Society of Economic Geologist, the Society of Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits, Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas de Chile, Colegio de Geologos de Chile and Sociedad Geologica de Chile. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and a Master’s degree in Economic Geology from the Universidad Católica del Norte. Sergio is Chilean national, resident in Chile and fluent in Spanish and English.
Corporate Affairs Manager
Patricio Pinto joined Coro to manage Corporate Affairs in June 2018. Patricio is a lawyer with a special focus on strategic communications for large development projects. He has over 20 years of experience across various industrial sectors including mining, transportation, energy and shipping. Prior to joining Coro, Patricio served as a Manager of Government Relations for Teck, Manager of Corporate Affairs for Barrick Gold, Manager of Corporate Affairs of Alsacia & Express, and Director of Communications for Puerto San Antonio, where he managed government and stakeholder relations. Patricio graduated with a degree in Law from the Central University of Chile before qualifying as a lawyer, he also holds a Masters in Strategic Communication from the Complutense University of Madrid. In addition, he holds a Diploma in Port Management from the University of Valencia. Patricio Pinto is a Chilean national. He is resident in Chile and speaks fluent Spanish and English.
Paola Kovacic joined Coro as an Exploration Project Geologist in December 2011. Paola is a geologist with 20 years of experience in copper exploration projects. Prior to joining Coro, Paola served as an exploration geologist in Codelco where she participated in different discoveries. She also participated with the IMG consulting group where she served as an Operations and Technical Manager. Paola is a member of the Chilean College of Geologist in addition to the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG). She has a Masters in Economic Geology, with a mention in Mining Exploration from the Universidad Católica del Norte in Chile . Paola Kovacic is a Chilean national and resident.
Eduardo Yung joined Coro as Project Manager in June 2015. Eduardo is an experienced mining, mechanical, civil and industrial engineer with over 20 years of experience in the resources sector, notably in the assessment of mineral resources and reserves, project feasibility studies and construction management. Prior to joining Coro, Eduardo served as Projects Superintendent at Mantos de la Luna Copper where he was responsible for project development, Project Construction Superintendent at Teck’s QB2 Project and as an Operations & Maintenance Chief at SQM. Eduardo is a graduate in Civil Industrial Mining Engineer from Antofagasta University and hold a Bachelor’s in Civil Industrial Mechanics Engineer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Santiago. He also holds a certification Professional Project Management certification from Project Management Institute. Eduardo Yung is a Chilean national, resident in Chile and fluent in Spanish and English.
